Director of IT
Avon, Connecticut. Open to relocation, and considering a move to Southern California.
I keep regulated firms running securely without a large IT department.
For thirty years I was the sole technology leader at Ballentine Capital Management, a $1B+ SEC-regulated investment firm. Before that, I led the small team that built portfolio accounting software used by more than fifty institutions. The firm is winding down after its founder's retirement, and I'm looking for the next seat.
Firms of roughly 20 to 200 people that have outgrown an MSP-only model and want someone in-house who owns the whole technology picture: RIAs, family offices, investment firms, and regional banks. I'm open to Head of IT and Director of IT roles, and to advisory and fractional engagements.
Automated vulnerability scanning, encrypted containers for firm and principal data, and off-premise disaster recovery. The result was 99.5% uptime and zero security incidents.
Contracts, SLAs and third-party risk across hardware, software, and market data providers. I oversaw a managed service provider through the move from on-premise Exchange to a full Microsoft 365, Azure and Entra ID environment, and later cut broker, custodian and market data connections by roughly half.
Primary technology advisor to firm leadership, turning business priorities into roadmaps and budgets I own. That includes the personal and residential technology of an ultra-high-net-worth principal.
I treat AI like any other vendor. I decide what data it can see, what it can do without asking, and what gets recorded.
I used Claude Teams as the main research tool on a multi-month project scoping a new investment adviser, covering registration requirements, compliance vendor due diligence, and the operating model, and I chose the platform on its data-retention and training terms. Now I'm building AI agents connected to business systems through MCP, designed around the risk that hidden instructions in content an agent reads can hijack it.
My AI work is hands-on and small scale. I haven't run an AI rollout at a firm, and I'd rather say so.
